The Winning Ticket has been chosen!

And the Winner Is………Judy Murphy!!!

Judy happens to be an 83 year old “go getter” in Marcy's jazzercise class.  Marcy confessed, Judy's ability to get down to do push-ups and planks has been a lot of peer pressure for her to do the same.

A total of $1,475 has been raised to be applied to our yearly grant requirement of matching dollars.  Thank you to all who bought tickets and sold to friends and family.  We couldn't do it without you!

Job Interviewing Seminar at Boys and Girls Club presented by Rotarians with successful careers.  Thank you Bill, John, Christie, and George!

Business Meeting October 5, 2026

Marcy O'Brien reported on the success of Partners in Wine.  They sold out all tickets.  Silent auction items brought in $3,500.  Final numbers are still pending but it looks like they will come in at about $21,000-$22,000.  Last year was $14,000.  They have already decided to make a few changes for next year.  The silent auction will be out by the wine bar.  They suggested doing wine/drink tickets versus a wine tasting for larger return.  Speakers will be placed at the back of the far room across from the staging area.  Marcy is grateful for the work of the committee and her staff.

Last week's meeting was a seminar at Boys and Girls Club on job interview skills.  They had advised 6 high school students would be in attendance but the day of the event only 2 were available.  They brought in additional students down to grade 8.  There were 3 guys and 3 girls.  We used their lab space and presented classroom style.  Thank you to Bill Abel, George McDoniel, Christie Coverdill, and John Finkes for presenting.  The kids were very interactive.  We found a high school girl was inclined to direct her questions about her first jobs to Christie. She seemed more comfortable with a female perspective, so future presentations will take that into consideration.  We discovered that students were not even familiar with what a resume was.  It was well worth the time.  Sue provided talking points to Rotarian presenters.  Students were provided an outline of material, a sample functional resume, and coupons to acquire a suitable interview outfit from Dress for Success and Humility Homes.

We had some discussion about our Christmas party.  Aidan contacted Holiday Inn in Rock Island, Sue contacted Biaggi's, and Marcy Riverhouse.  We can also go back to TPC.  A vote will be taken for majority winner.  An email will be sent separately from the newsletter to compare all options.

Next quarter dues are due now.  Invoices will be coming in the next week.

John Finkes - Best Salesman Ever

Andy Axup taking a break with Bill and Lynn Abel.  Thank to to Lynn for her gorgeous center pieces!

George and Margaret McDoniel having a chat with Tom Pasmore, Aidan's grandfather.  Thank you Tom for the Green Bay Packers Tickets contributed for the live auction.

Happy Dollars of the Week

Andy missed his 6th week of class announcement and the 7th due to our trip to Boys and Girls Club.  We're on track now!

Wayne celebrated Da Bears which he listened to on the radio.  Sadly, Diana's cousin, father, and brother passed in the last couple of weeks.  Please keep their family in their prayers.

Paul celebrated the wine tasting success.  He attended, sling attached.  He's healing well.

Kathy was happy about Charlie's success playing football.  They have had 4 wins and 1 loss.  Next game is Geneseo and then Byron.  She also showed off her lovely new tattoos she shared with her granddaughter. It's ok, they are the temporary kind.

Christie's street is torn up but it will be nice when it's done.Wayne recommends the use of a nail to place her initials (or the neighbors) and the year in a corner after concrete is poured.

Sue's grandson is in kindergarten and was one of 5 kids out of his class who could count and write numbers up to 100.  She is also happy to be undefeated on her fantasy football team.

Randy is happy about the awesome weather we have had and yet to come.

Marcy is thrilled with the wine tasting event success.

Aidan is happy about food pantry signage he'll be discussion with Zion Lutheran Church.

John was amused by his granddaughter's kitten shenanigans and his grandson did a half marathon Saturday in Iowa City.  He had a 9 minute mile.  Mizzou beat Florida and 11 family members were able to attend home coming.

George completed “the Great White Sox Purge of 2024” after their series of failures on the ball field.  He now wishes he didn't do that.  As they say, it's a whole new ball game this year.

 $ 42 was raised.
